• I may wish to have them, but going out actively looking for friends that will be useful to you in the future seems a bit too utilitarian. This is distinct to networking as both parties explicitly know the expectations. — onlyname
• Not as a sole objective of the friends. But objective as in setting a more general attitude in life, regardless of anyone specific, that would then facilitate having committed friends. Is a way of leading your life, rather than match-searching. — helia
